Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
The iMac is awesome but if your not very good with computers it can be a little hard to use at times. Best thing to do is to go to the tutorial groups at the apple store and they show you how to use your shit properly without the headaches. you won't be disappointed with an iMac they run so much better than PCs
As for lap top it depends on what you use it for, personally I'd just get a hp laptop
-
Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
I can never get into Apple computers. I like ASUS laptops. Dell is good for a workhorse and nothing else, it's all i've used for 8 years in business. But for playing and surfing I like ASUS. But with Apple computers you definitely won't have to worry about issues, just got to learn to use it.

Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
Exactly what Manny said,Go all Mac-Iphone-Ipad and desktop-I even have an extra pad for those special pics and vids. Most of the time ppl dont even know your are rolling vid.MAC is great-OD

Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
Now if you was a Gamer. You just can't beat overclocking an Intel chip on your desktop. The speed cannot be matched on a Mac desktop. LOL, sorry I had to throw that in there, I hate Apple.

Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
I am all mac! everything talks to each other....it's great. calendars, music, photos, contacts...etc. it is the best! iphone, power mac, powerbook, ipad, apple TV...ipod. Guess I drank the cool aid...and the stock is very nice as well.

Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
Don't get an iPad. They suck! That's what I've got and I hate it. I can't watch any shows on it (no Flash), quite a few websites won't even load on it, very hard to type on, you can't download or upload anything (mp3s, jpg, etc), and a lot of forums won't work without special apps. Also, you still need a laptop to set it up and to perform updates! Bullshit!
-
Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
thanks guys i most likely am going to stick to my gateway home pc for a few more years, unless it breaks down. im to cheap to buy a new one yet
what im really up in the air about is what labtop to get, thats what ill be buying soon
i already had a sony varo and i didnt like it to much

I told you to jailbreak it and you can download straight to it.
But yeah I'm not a big fan of the iPad for that $ I'd rather get a laptop

Well with the laptop like I said it depends what you want it for... I prefer a hp laptop for the price and versatility but I do like the MacBooks a lot
With your pc you can basically make a new one buy getting a external hard drive, and a new operating system onto it, such as Linux or windows 7. You can even get a new motherboard for fairly cheap as well if you can manage to install it yourself. I still have my pc from 99 lol still works great but I keep upgrading the internals and operating systems to keep the cost down. I have a iMac as well.

I would never game on a laptop anyway. They get too hot and noisy and the fan sounds like a jet aircraft engine. I still game on my desktop, but gaming on PC has really went to shit in my opinion. The gaming industry can't seem to put out anything decent anymore...it's just sequel after sequel. I bet I haven't bought a new game in well over a year. Meanwhile my Nvidia 570 GTX sits in my case, just grabbing some antiquity day by day....

I love the iMac. I've had 2 now. U can porn it up all u want. No spyware or bullshit to deal with.
I used to do IT work. Got tired of reloading windows every yr to keep the damn things running well.
My dads pc is nothing but issues. I've relapsed windows twice now.....he doesn't even look at porn. I checked lol.
If u do photoshop, video editing etc apple is the way to go.
If u like gaming.....it's a pc u want.

Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
hey if the laptop is working.. why upgrade... if you don't like the OS ..try a different OS
you can always try a linux distro..download burn to cdrom.. boot to cdrom .. nothing changes on laptop unless you install..
Ubuntu, is really pretty good
Xubuntu is Ubuntu for older hardware ...
I like linux mint
and really old hardware ( pre 2000) try Puppylinux runs on 512MB
Linux is easier than most people think..and secure and stable
anyhow the distos are free and blank CDR's are pennys a piece..
a couple hours of fooling arond and you are a geek
to go

Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
one more thing I like about Linux... is DOS Box ..If there is an old DOS game you still like , chances are very good you can get it running in DOS box. Sure there is a version for windows7 bit the Linux version is more stable than dos ever was. And all the games are on abandonia for free down load..
like the original Civilization or empire deluxe .. it is out there ..
or are you a leisure suit Larry fan?
all with a few clicks and free downloads...
not sure of the MAC version... probably pretty good speed on an Intel chip...
get that dead PC going with a new OS , and a new life
or craig's list it so some else can...

Macbooks are very over priced . Look at the hardware specs and go get all the same stuff and a TV for your living room for the same price lol. I don't recommend Mac OS to people that don't web development or some kind of media editing . I like Lenovo and asus computers . I web develop and game so Mac OS sucks for me since I game. If your like my dad he lays in bed and surfs the web or pays bills so he got a Windows 7 tablet. Its like a iPad but full windows 7 on it.

Mac is far more user friendly and no viruses your going to spend the extra money getting your windows reformatted all the time

Yup Mac is the way to go, you get what you pay for. They may be expensive but well worth it and you can pick up a 1 year old Macbook for a good price if you look carefully. The only time I'd recommend a windows based pc or laptop is if the user plans on gaming with it.

Manny if I upgrade my iPhone to os 6 can I still jail break I've been meanin to do it just haven't got around

that is just not true ..in fact a few years ago someone hacked one in 10 seconds
http://www.itwire.com/your-it-news/h...nds-at-pwn2own
sure there are more kits for a Windows but as Macs become more popular they will become more hacked.. there is nothing special about macs..
I also read there were bugs in the Mac that Apple refused to deal with until the anti Virus people threatened to reveal then to the public.
I got nothing against Macs, ( hell I bought Apple stock in 2001 and have the paper work to prove it ) I just hear the old Mac are more secure thing ..and know you are living in a denile..

They can be hacked but viruses are almost if not non-existent

^ I'm more concerned w viruses then being hacked

Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
Viruses are more common on macs these days via many different flash based exploits
It's simply a numbers game with viruses. Hackers had no incentive to create Mac viruses for years due to macs low market percentage. As macs prefentage increased relative to windows hackers have responded by creating viruses at a corresponding rate.
Any more an active firewall and a top notch virus program are mandatory on any machine.
Macs are no where near as safe as they used to be. Maybe a hair safer than windows due to the way their permissions are written.
-
Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
Mac also does handle viruses much much better due to the permissions as well. They are much less prone to needing to be completely wiped.
-
That's interesting makes a lot of sense though
-
Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
hey you follow the basics, ie don't go to strange sites... down download from strangers, and stay away from P2P you should be good..
if you really want to be safe ,,,you can go hardcore with NSA Linux.. that might be too secure though ( I wonder if you can even surf the web with it )
another option is get a bootable cdrom linux distro,, ( ubuntu , madrivia, mint etc)
the cdrom is write once and is not going to ever be corrupted. reboot everything is gone.
So security can be higher ... but who is willing to put in the effort?

You sound like me! One thing to add, 24GB DDR3 :-)
Guys, the money you spend for an Apple product we can build for you for the half the cost and 150% more power and flexibility!
Don't do it!

Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
I have built numerous hachintoshes. An Apple computer is Overpriced PC hardware at half the power for the price. You can install Mac OS x 10.6 -10.8 on PC hardware with a little bit of research. tonymacx86.com has plenty of advice of compatible hardware. But for gaming Windows 7 is your best option Mac is more of a editing workstation but the card you have to purchase to do editing on Mac is $1500 same card on PC $500. My last Mac/PC build was i7 6 core 32 gb ddr3 2 ssd raid 0 and 2 gtx 680 sli with dual boot windows 7 and Mac OS x Lion

Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
This is not true with new windows user account control is the same as apple sudo bash. When you select yes accept you are essentially entering root password. If you want more security in Windows just use NTFS folder permissions no virus will be able to access files. Mac updates there security updated just as much as windows does and in both if you use time machine and windows image backup restores are easy and require no refresh installs. Only reason windows gets attacked more then apple is because more businesses use windows then Apple. Why would a hacker wanna make a virus for a OS not as widely used. Sexurity is more your job then OS job put a firewall in your home or office. Viruses only get in if you download them. I never use virus programs and have never had a virus since windows xp.

Re: imac vs home pic/macbook vs labtop
^^^^^aBOVE post was ment to reply to this post and agree that windows is just as safe.
