    Text messages safe?

ok so my buddy claims he has an FBI agent as a client. he told him FBI can and will get full text message records up to 2 yrs if they need.

I'm aware text are open wave an easy to intercept....by someone with fancy gadgets of course.

Someone was saying all they can get is merely there was a message sent via this # to that # but unless they have the cell phone with the message....they have nothing.

My thoughts are this......if you are being watched that closely u are fucked anyways. It's only a matter of time before the shit hits the fan. I'm sure the FBI can pull this stuff....can normal detectives? Doubtful. They can't even tell the difference between a silver Nissan Titan and a blue Toyota tacoma( Donner case lol).

Just curious if roid messages between buddies are safe is the main question.

I've read plenty of cases that past text messages were used. You can get a printout from your cell carrier of all texts sent, so surely a detective w a warrant can.

Will it actually display the actual text message though? I mean I can log onto my cell carrier but it merely shows the # text was sent/received to/from.

I hate when my buddy is right lol! he knows everything....just ask him lol.

Still requires the need to get the messages though.

Yeah, it requires a warrant. If you're not a dealer, it's a non issue.

Ultimately that's my point. I get reasons for caution. U can never be too safe!

I was just trying to drive my point home with him.....if they are watching you being careful with txts are the least of your worries!!

    even worse ...
cell phones routinely sell you information to police without a warrant for a small service fee and make a killing , they are selling this information to marketing companies as well .. here it the thing .. cell phones are not land lines ..and has anyone every read their cell phone contract they sign ..

I think that all depends on the carrier also! I know for a fact that Tmobile does not save the messages. My attorney tried like hell to get some for us but they said they only keep record of the numbers back and forth.

No NOT SAFE. IF you have an iPod iPhone or iPad there is a great secure encrypted texting application wickr. They do not store messages period. Nothing as good for Droid. Assume all of your texts can be read. At least tsunami to find an application that octets SOME SECURITY.
