I have an uncle who was a Vietnam Vet, that passed away last December from renal cancer. These men, I feel are sometimes forgotten and were treated so very poorly by many and for most of them it was not even there choice to go there. When he arrived at Ohare airport after being in Nam..he was literally spit on by many people. He never liked to talk about his times there but we always knew the impact and how he felt honor for those who fight for our country.

I wanted to do something special in his honor so I looked up at the village where he lived. The Village offered a program that would fly a flag in honor of anyone who served our country and who had passed. I filled out a form and was contacted by the group. A flag was flown in his honor on April 22 in front of the White House. then it was flown for the month of June in honor of him, in front of the Village Hall where he lived. The Flag and 2 plaques were then presented to my aunt on the Fourth of July at her home. I think this is such a wonderful thing and one I wish more cities would offer.

thanks to all who served and do serve
