    hacking dna

So I saw an article on the events of 2017, and this story slipped by me ...
this guy hacked his own dna to suppress myostatin..

anyone out there watch Orphan Black . Does this guy sound like a neolutionist?

"Well, it's not necessarily that I want bigger muscles," he says. "The thing is, that this is the first time in history that we are no longer slaves to our genetics. We no longer have to live with the genetics we had when we were born. Technologies like CRISPR and other genetic modification technologies allow adult humans to modify the cells in their body."

Don't mess with your dna. We ain't God. Who knows what set of events we start in motion. We may understand the components but we certainly do not know how they interact as a whole. Mess with a single piece and all bets are off. Our bodies like homeostasis.

well for people with aggressive cancers , or birth defects that are killing people, the risks are worth it IMHO.
so for example, if you have that aging disease and going to die at 14 then it could be worth it ..

however just for kicks as this guy did... no way.

my family has a genetic disorder ( no I am not lucky enough to have suppressed myostatin like ron coleman) but someday there will be genetic editing to fix it ...

it's a brave new world ... the question is can we survive it...

this stuff will be out there ,if it is illegal in the US it might not be in another country...

agree 100% just because you can do something doesn't mean you should, and brave new world in Huxley's words is a nightmare.

^ Yes who has an idea of the potential consequences, altering dna, although they have been doing recombinant (chimeric) dna since at at least the 50's in some indications maybe as early as the 30's. yes we aren't in Kansas anymore.
