My wife cannot orgasm due to antidepressants...

My wife and I have had quite the challenges this year, particularly to her relapsing and her medications she has been on for 10 years. We tried weening her off some of the meds under the instructions of her psychiatrist, but went through horrible withdrawals. During that time intimacy was not even in the picture. So her doctor put her back on the ones he was trying to ween her off from plus increased her dose on her Lexapro due to her depression had become really bad, sleep all the time and basically couch potato. She is also in PTSD type of therapy named CRM, it works on deep rooted past trauma from abuse and epigenetics (things passed down from her mom and dad). This poor woman has been through the ringer, which is why she would self medicate in the past. This has been her 3rd relapse since we have been together (18 years). Here is what she is dealing with...

The popular medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs (see box) can help lift people out from under a dark cloud of depression. But there are some side effects from antidepressants, including those that can affect your sex life. In addition to reducing interest in sex, SSRI medications can make it difficult to become aroused, sustain arousal, and reach orgasm. Some people taking SSRIs aren't able to have an orgasm at all. These symptoms tend to become more common with age.

Antidepressants most likely to*cause sexual side effects*include: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which include citalopram (Celexa),escitalopram*(Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac), paroxetine (Paxil, Paxil CR, Pexeva) and sertraline (Zoloft).

I have been trying EVERYTHING to get her to have an orgasm, but nothing is working. We just had her bloods done and everything is normal (E2 & testosterone as well). We tried Viagra at a low dose, gave her a headache which we know that doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas?

AM, any thoughts? This sucks as we have had plenty of sex in the past couple weeks but only I get off, not her. I feel bad for her and we are at our last thread with this, it is adding to her depression too.

Thanks for letting me vent. Yeah it's personal, but you all are my brothers and sister (Baby where are you?) So I feel comfortable bringing this up to try and see if anyone else has experienced this crap.

    God bless family!!!

Have the lingerie which really doesn't do much for her, wondering how low of a dose of Cialis? I have some coming that are pharma 20mg, thinking what 5mg? Worth a try. Hitatchi Magic Wand will look into it, porn would be an idea, just need to make sure whomever is in the movie is pleasing to her senses know what I mean? Yes we have added using CBD/THC at night for her insomnia issues caused by her antidepressants she was trying to ween off of, she had horrible insomnia which she couldn't sleep at all, which is why she was on the couch a lot. Thanks Mook, all these ideas are good.

MA, I really feel for you and I know the feeling of watching your love one go through something and the felling of helplessness. Its sounds as if her psychiatrist got the chemical side down but how long has she been on her current meds at the current dosage? After 14 years of marriage I know the signs that the meds and the dosage needs to be "Tweaked" and are no longer working as prescribed. A patient that stays on the same meds at the same dosages starts to become immune to the current protocol and adjustments are needed. You pretty much covered the chemical side what about therapy, does she see her physiologist on a regular basis?

Helplessness is the key word my brother, exactly what I have been feeling. I have attached a short video explaining the type of therapy she has been doing. She has been going weekly for the past few months, but due to cost we had to go to every other week, as well as my daughters therapy. Their therapists are out of our insurance network (my health insurance now really SUCKS, PPO that I pay a lot of out of pocket expenses and my work pays $2200 a month for it for me) and it was costing $1000 a month for the both of them (which is why I couldn't take you up on your sale lol). CRM therapy is pretty intense, check out the video. Yes the meds she has been on have now basically taken over, the withdrawal symptoms she was having were horrible. So he put her back on. Just praying daily for God to heal her in this, but her seratonin levels must be shot from past drug and alcohol abuse.

Re: My wife cannot orgasm due to antidepressants...

SSRI's work by increasing the neurotransmitter serotonin in your brain, this is what helps with depression and anxiety, but to much "serotonin" can also inhibit libido and make it 99% harder to orgasm. It's also 99% that when serotonin increases, dopamine is reduced!! Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that actually facilitates arousal (among other things), so if you're secreting less of it, you'll have a much harder time getting and staying turned on!!

SSRI's binds with' high' affinity to the serotonin reuptake site, but not to the norepinephrine or dopamine reuptake sites. SSRI's potently and selectively inhibits reuptake of serotonin. They also bind selectively with high affinity to 5-HT receptors and is a 5-HT receptor partial agonist.
It is a total disconnect between 'upstairs' and 'downstairs'!! Gimmick stuff ate going to do it!
I don't think the older 'tricyclic antidepressants have as much of an effect on libido as the newer based ones.. She could consider switching to a different one. And I don't think the tricyclics aren't as effective just b/c they're older. They have worked great in many women, in fact if anything it improved it, though I think that was more because they were feeling better generally than b/c of any side effects of the medicine. Basically, it's totally individual, the body sort of recalibrates and it doesn't affect it anymore.

Ask her doctor OR suggest adding on another medication like something that increases dopamine, or temporarily suppresses serotonin. Orgasm releases the hormone 'oxytocin'..

I think I told you about a couple thinks years ago. These are all compounded, and new a script.. I will add another that your need.. Sildenafil 3% - Nitroglycerin 0.2% and is hypoallergenic. Cream , also compounded. Its called Scream Cream or V Cream. Apply it the clitoris, it increases blood flow, and will help orgasm..
If her doctor isn't of this school', than go to any Hormone Replacement Clinic or Wellness Clinic/Center for women, they will know exactly what all these products are...
You can check out Dr. Randolph's site, he's a compound pharmacist I've know for years. Look at the Natural Balance Cream Progesterone Cream.... He has a lot of good stuff for both male/female.. www.agelessandwellness.com

I'm going to PM you brother with some info tomorrow ...…..Relax MA, this is very old school...…...AM
