On 3-20-13 Nasser El Sonbaty Dies at age 47

He was one of five guys I enjoyed following back in the 90s. this is some info I pulled of the Net and thought I would share.

Nobody knows exactly how this has happened yet, but several sources have confirmed that Nasser El Sonbaty has passed away at the age of 47. According to IFBB Pro Shawn Ray, the word on the street is that Nasser had kidney failure from kidney infection.

Nasser El Sonbaty Bio

Nasser El Sonbaty was born October 15, 1965 and graduated from the University of Augsburg in Germany with a degree in history, political science and sociology! He first began bodybuilding in 1983 and his first competition was a Junior State Championship in Germany in 1985, where he placed 6th. His first appearance in the Mr. Olympia competition was in 1994, where he placed 7th. In total, Nasser competed in 13 amateur shows and 53 IFBB Pro shows. He qualified for 10 consecutive Mr. Olympia contests and entered nine Mr. Olympia competitions. His best placing in the Mr. Olympia competition was in 1997, where he placed 2nd.

Huge Nasser

Nasser's offseason body weight was as much as 330 pounds and his contest weight was between 270 to 290 pounds! Nasser is often referred to as the "Uncrowned Mr. Olympia," due to his battles on stage with Dorian Yates where many felt he should have won. Other nicknames include "The Wizard of Truth," and "Huge Nasser" and some have speculated that he's been writing for the last few years online under the ghost name GH15. Nasser was featured on over 60 magazine covers, including FLEX magazine

I had dinner one night with him when he was guest posing at a show I judging. I had walked to a Chili's near my hotel and he was having dinner by himself. I introduced myself and sat for about 2 hours talking mostly, of all things, Drugs! What I learned the most was about Lasix!!( a diuretic) . He took massive amounts. It was insane. If he did die of kidney disease it wouldn't surprise me.

GH15.org is going strong, and he's been on everyday since the 21st posting up and calming his pupils, lol. I think Nassar was apart of Gh15, but I think there's a few more fella's behind it. Either way, we lost an amazing bodybuilder a few days ago.

They don't seem to have a long life span. A long time ago there was a dead pool where people would bet on what IFBB Pro would pass that year. It's just terrible but the abuse they put their body through is just to much for it to last.

Very true! Nasser was a heavy drug user and did alot of Lasix..what a shame, such a young age.

sad to hear ... the fact that I am 47 also really brings it home...
saw a video posted at the end of February ..he looked ok ...I am guessing heart..
had a friend that met him at a bar once ...Nasser was drunk and saying he was talking to him
Nasser said he was taking serious level of Test..a level thi guy could not believe.. he looked at him and thought yeah
330 at 5'10 that is a big boy ...blow him up to a 6'5 line man you are talking well over 400

what the NFL would be without testing... scary

anyhow I digress.. he will be missed, he was one of my favorites..

anyone else think that these "tributes" you see on you tube are kind of strange..
I set up google alerts so that any video's with mentioning any of my favorite bb'ers sends me an email alert years ago..
So now I am getting a bunch of these Sonbaty videos.. and they are just people staring into the camera and kind of depressively babbling
I guess if you a kid into BB'ing in a farm in the middle of no where you really don't have anyone to share your sorry with ..

youtube has to do..
