    Nikon d5100

Ok buying this camera for my wife don't know much about cameras so maybe u guys can help... The body alone is 450 the body w 18-55mm vr lens is 550 ( leaning towards this) costco has the bundle w two lenses 18-55 vr and 50-300 vr for 800 which is a good deal too... My question is should I get the bundle from Costco or get the bundle for 550 and save up for the 70-300 mm vr lens which I've heard is better than the 50-300mm just more expensive by the way I have no idea what the numbers mean

I have the older Nikon D90.

Different lenses are used for different situations. The aperture is what you need to look at. That'll tell you the how good the lens is imo.

I haven't kept up with cameras lately but the 2 best companies are Cannon and Nikon. Just make sure she doesn't use the automatic settings. The WHOLE reason to use a DSLR is to be able to set everything yourself.

I got my D90 years ago. I'm sure it's already considered archaic by today's standards. I think the 2 lenses that come in the kit would be good for her to begin with. Also, be sure to buy her a book on how to properly use the camera so she gets to use it to the fullest.

I bought the d5100 w the 18-55mm lens. I figured it was a decent price and I can get her another lens for her birthday after she plays w it and figures out which kind she wants next... I hope she enjoys it I had a really hard time spending almost 700 on a camera but hopefully she loves it

I'm sure she'll love it. It's quite the present.

    Hey Vicious

I am in same situation only i have to buy nikon d4 witch is top camear at the present(she doing pro photography)
I cannot imagine how much gear I could by for this money
By the way You did correct choice in buying kit with 18-55 mm lense this is most common for every day photo and she will enjoy taking pictures(thats how my wife got hooked up on photography) 70-200 is more for ...lets say more distant objects.more higher number -200 ... -300 ..closer you can zoom in on object, then there is a apreture number this is lense speed ,3.4....2.8...1.8 f lower number faster lense
