Nice try vic but your not gonna see it from my point of view clearly. If I don't have the money for it it doesn't matter.

You act like this insurance that is a supposed gift is affordable it ain't. I make half what you make and it is physically impossible to afford if you can't get subsidies in my income group.

I'm looking at a bill of over 4 grand a year when I'm already paycheck to paycheck. This is coming from some with little money vic. I'm one of the people this is supposed to help and it doesn't help me one fucking bit. This is what will break me.

Yeah health care is expensive, but guess the fuck what forcing people who don't have the money to buy it will destroy this country from the inside out. I make about 400 bucks above the subsidy level as do millions of other Americans and every last person like me is going to go into debt over this.

Who pays my bill? Not you or anyone else. My catastrophic insurance I have through state farm does. Just cause you don't have health insurance doesn't mean someone else pays your bills unless you have taken no other precautions. Worse come to worse Ive financially protected myself not by others.

Self reliance is the code I live by. If I can't provide for myself I have zero expectation that someone else will. If someone did help I'm grateful, but I do not expect it. Don't take the last statement out of context as me being heartless as that would be grossly incorrect. I have and continue up to help people however I can. Hell vic I'd give The shirt off my back and am fixing to give the hair off my head to kids with cancer.

Oh and this catastrophic plan costs me 5 dollars a month in my risk pool.

I believe we can likely agree on a point here. I do think that it can be very beneficial to have health insurance. Where our views seem to diverge is with the idea that you should be forced to buy it if you can't afford it.

In my eyes the forcible imposition of being required to buy insurance is fiscally irresponsible and morally wrong. Where the entire aca went wrong is that they did absolutely nothing to address the true problem with health care. That problem being the outrageously high costs of everything from surgeries to prescriptions. The only good I've seen from this is the change with pre existing conditions which is important.

My whole point vic is that forcing anybody to buy something they can't afford health insurance or otherwise does nothing to help anyone.

          • I can definitely understand your point but I truly do believe everyone needs health insurance u r right though the problem is the crazy prices of surgeries and prescriptions. Like I said if I didn't have the health insurance I have when my wife had the baby it would have cost me upwards of 20,000 instead of the 500 co pay

That part of the law has been in effect since 2011 and the first rebates were supposed to go out in 2012.

The problem with that "benefit" is that the 80% is for the insurer as a whole and doesn't apply to each individual.

So let's keep the numbers small let's say an insurer has 10 people with premiums of 100 each. That means they only have to pay out 800 across those 10 people to be in compliance.

Which as you noted earlier for example a pregnancy is a huge cost, broken limbs, etc, and as such they are able to meet this 80% without paying out a single dime to many people. These refunds are extremely unlikely to be seen by us.

This is my understanding from reading on hhs.Gov if I'm wrong I'll eat crow.

Well Vic you could drop your insurance go across the border and come back as an illegal and had baby here for free or get sick and been treated for free. Oh and those subsidies you are paying for those too.

Skyling I know where you are coming from your exactly the kind of person that this will hurt the most. And all the people that are being dropped to part time so employers do have to pay part of the health care. I'm not saying they should have to but if that was negotiated when you where hire then it's bs to cut it out without renegotiating.

I didn't read all 12 pages, but I think obamacare is a good thing. Look at all the people who go to the doctor without insurance and end up not paying. Think about how much the country has to pay for all of those who don't pay. My family has health insurance, it cost me $250/mon and itsgreat insurance. I don't bitch about it because in the long run its saving me a ton of cash with all of my children who get sick quite often and with my profession I do get injured every once in a while. I believe this bill will save this country a ton of money and help get this country off its knees.

Edit: I do think that doctors charge far too much and get paid a hell of a lot more than they should. I also believe that big pharma is sucking everybody dry along with the doctors.

                          • If u use the insurance not getting a refund is fair I think ... And if u don't then get your refund like I said though 40000 for a baby I don't have that sitting in my sick drawer. Most I've ever had saved is 35000 and most of that went to my house down payment paying that to a doc would b devastating

You guys don't get it the people that didnt have health care before still won't. Hell I believe it was msnbc that had a lady go on the site and try to get insurance guess what her premium was 4 times higher than what she had and deductible was $15k. It's cheaper to pay the fine and not have health care.

That's not how it works though vic. The refund is based on the insurer as a whole not the individual.
