  • Demonoid busted

Just found out about this a few days ago. This was probably the best torrent site.

Last week, we reported that popular private torrent site Demonoid was hit by a massive DDoS attack and was subsequently out of commission for over a week. The length of the outage, and the fact that the address stopped pointing anywhere rather than displaying some kind of outage message, caused speculation that the venerable site may be down for good. Unfortunately, Demonoid's demise may not be speculation any longer, as word broke that Ukrainian authorities shut down the site.

For file share sites, I've always had the best luck with Soulseek. There's NEVER been a song I couldn't find on there.

I used Demonoid primarily for movies, also full albums. Thepiratebay.com is also good for music

                          Re: Demonoid busted

As a general rule of thumb I stay away from the top 100 movie downloads on thepiratebay.se. Back over a year ago, big hollywood sent lawsuit notices to 25000 downloaders of the Expendables. They used a tech firm to go on torrent sites for 2 weeks and capture everyone's IP address. The lawsuit was dropped by the plaintiffs as the judge threw out 98% of the defendants because they were not within the courts jurisdiction. A little while later they regrouped and annouced they were going go file lawsuits more locally and go after ~2000 defendants at a time. In this news article they talked about how they were collecting more IP addresses. But if you stay out of the top 100, there's almost no chance of being captured. With music, most of the discography collections are older and the RIAA isn't having lawyers target them.

More big lawsuits also on the way against thousands of BitTorrent downloaders of films including "Conan the Barbarian," "Drive Angry" and "The Mechanic."
