Thanks IG. It's been tough and I hope this is the fix. I went with test thinking it would help, but with the lack of sleep, it's almost null.

Good thing is, if this is the fix, can't wait to see how I look in 2017. I'm going to use 2016 for recovery and growth.

I love my boys more than anything. I'm sure everyone knows what I mean.

Couple things. With my setup which is exactly what you wore, I sleep however I want. Sidebar, back, stomach it's great.

Second,go see your dentist if you grind or clench your teeth. Most apnea people do. I got this mouth piece I wear pretty much 24/7 and I sleep even better when using Cpap. Plus I don't get twisted and knotted muscles in my neck and between my shoulder blades anymore. I was clenching teeth so hard, I popped a filling out. Get this checked. Mouthpiece plus Cpap equals heaven!

Cpap has literally saved my life. I couldn't sleep without it. If I even take a short nap without it I snore stop breathing etc so bad I'd rather just not take a nap. Now, if I could keep my wife from constantly yelling and cussing life would be grand.

So, starting a new post.

As all of you are aware, I had my first sleep study last night. I went it being optimistic and concerned that if I didn't have any or enough events, what path would I try to go down next to figure out what's wrong with me??

Well, I arrived right on time and walked in. The tech took me back to the room where I'd be sleeping and gave me a run down on where and what everything is/was. She explained to me that they were waiting for everyone else to arrive and then they would start adding the sensors and things. The lady I spoke with earlier that morning told me to tell them I'm usually in bed and asleep by 8:30/9PM. She said okay and that she'd be right back.

About 5 minutes later, she came back and asked me to follow her to another room. There I was greeted by two other ladies. The started pulling out wires and sensors and everything else. I was asked to turn around and they proceeded to put wires down my legs and the asked me to sit in a recliner. Then all of the sudden, 6 hands were push, rubbing, attaching, adding paste of some sort, and almost flipping me around in the recliner.

About 10 minutes later, around 7:50/55ish, I was helped up and escorted back to my room. The lady stated that she was going to find a mask that would work with me and she looked at my nose and said "small". Small? haha Means I have a big fat head. haha I sat on the bed and waited for her to return.

Once she returned, she explained to me what we were going to do and what we would do later. It was brought to her attention that I needed a split night. Meaning if I had enough "events", at the middle of the study, they'd put a mask on me. (Yes!). This about about 8:00/05ish. She put the CPAP on me and was explaining what was going on. (Earlier she asked me what time I wanted to go to sleep, I stated anywhere between 8:30 and 9PM.) So while she was putting the mask on, she wanted me to get used to or acclimated to the mask (to see how it feels) incase she needed to put it on me later that night and it wouldn't surprise me.

She finished up and said she was going to help get others ready and would be back in a bit. She threw the pillows up and told me to sit back and relax and breathe only through my nose. No problem! She also stated that she'd get to her station and would adjust it. At first it was hard to breath in. Then I felt when she adjusted it at and it was wonderful.

I sat back and just enjoyed the feeling of it. I will say, the mask was a little awkward, but I quickly got used to it. (Maybe my scuba diving helped with having something over my mouth/nose/head?) I was sitting back an noticed that my breaths were bigger than what they usually are. Deep full linked breaths and it was natural. I didn't do it purposely (like when you are the dentist and they turn up the laughing gas!) and it felt awesome! I try to do the something when scuba diving. Long, slow, and controlled breathes.

Well, when she left, she said "Don't go to sleep until I get back... and she smiled.) Well, that was a little bit of an issue. haha About 15 minutes in, I was REALLY sleepy. So sleepy that I had to sit up and reposition myself so I wouldn't fall asleep. Fighting to stay awake again, 8:30 came and she busted in. I so didn't want her to take it off, but I knew she needed to. Again, she explained that she'd come in at the middle of the study (12AM I think) if I had enough events to warrant it.

She hooked up all the monitoring equipment and the one that goes on my finger for O2 sensing. She said have a goodnight's sleep and see you soon. I giggled and said "Night!". About three minutes later, she came in and asked for my hand. She apparently was having issues sensing the O2 level. She moved it around and said "Be right back!". She came back in a minute with a different one and put it on my finger. "I may or may not be back!". I guess it worked, I feel asleep.

Or at least I thought I fell asleep or I didn't, but couldn't, but was asleep, maybe??

I yawned quite a bit and the bed was comfortable, but not as comfortable as mine. Plus, I had strict rules to NOT lay on my sides, I had to lay on my back. GAH! So I laid there for what seemed to be 2.5 hours (or until 11PM). I couldn't (so I thought) get to sleep. All this time, my right nostril was stuffed and I couldn't breath out of it. My legs ached and I couldn't get comfortable with my arm (rotator cuff tear (supraspinatus)) at all.

So, I felt like I kicked around and got really upset that I couldn't get to sleep until I had to use the restroom. I finally spoke up (I didn't have to push a button or anything, she said just speak up) and stated I needed to use the restroom. She came in and helped get me unhooked and I walked into the restroom.

When I came back out, I asked her how I was doing. She said we are definitely going to be using a mask for the rest of the study. She said I had one more hour before we could put it on though. I asked her how may events I had and she stated that her and the others stopped counting. Only stopped counting since there were so many events in the 2-2.5 hours. Wow. So I asked her if that's why I felt like I didn't go to sleep, she stated that I did, but that's what sleep apnea does to you.

(So that hit me like a ton of bricks. When I'm tired and go to bed, it feels like it takes me quite sometime to get sleep. So if I go to bed at 11PM, I feel like I'm up till 1 or 2AM and then I "wake up" at 5:16 AM.) I've been going to bed between 8:30 and 9 PM and it feels like I usually fall asleep around 11 or 12. Hence I feel like I get 4-5 hours of sleep a night. EVEN when I go to BED "early".)

She said she'd be back in an hour and would hook me up to the CPAP. It was 11PM and she had to wait until 12AM. What a LONG HOUR! I feel (maybe I didn't?) that I didn't sleep at all. My legs still fidgeting and I just couldn't get comfortable.

Finally she comes in. She removes the breathing tubes (they detected the amount of air coming out (I guess) from my nose) and puts the mask on, thankfully profited earlier! She tells me to feel free to adjust it which ever way it feels comfortable for me. I grabbed it and pulled it down of the bridge of my nose and said that was good! She said she'd start at a lower pressure and then slowly move it up as needed. No problem.

So, I got semi comfortable and started to relax with the mask on (BTW, she did mention it was a heated tube and humidified..?). Immediately, I was taking long breaths in and out. (She did have me blow my nose and now my left nostril was stuffed up.) GAH! It felt really comfortable. She asked if I was okay and I gave her a thumbs up and she said goodnight.

I laid there for a little bit focusing on keeping my mouth shut and breathing only through my nose. It almost felt like I was warned butter melting into the bed. Then I coughed. GAH! I laid there for what seemed like awhile and finally went to sleep. I think I was dreaming that I was concentrating on the mask. Making sure it was on right, not leaking, and paying attention to my breathing. I feel that I slept pretty good with it, but I still didn't feel I got any really good sleep with it. Granted, it'll take awhile to get used to it (so I've read).

Sometime between 12AM (or me falling asleep) and 5AM, she came in again to replace the O2 sensor. Quickly, I fell back to sleep.

5 AM and "Good morning" was said over the intercom. Morning! I felt good upon waking up, but the bed wrecked havoc on my back and legs. I was stiff and slow to get up. I read a brochure earlier that stated the techs won't have any readings or anything available... aka.. don't ask them anything. haha Well, I like to live on the edge. I asked her how did I do and she responded great!. Okay, what about events? She mentioned that I would definitely be prescribed a CPAP. She literally just stopped counting events (I assume they will be on the reports?) and I'll find out later.

So, I sat there and she was taking everything off of me. I had to answer and small questionnaire and that was it. I went into the restroom, did my thing and then washed my face to get that paste or whatever off. My hair was funny looking too. Just to tired to get a pic.

I hope this long write will help anyone thinking about getting a sleep study to be less nervous about it. I wasn't really nervous about the actually sleeping/studying it's self, only if I would have enough events. Again, if I didn't have sleep apnea, what was my next course of action?

I literally feel exhausted all day and everyday. My quality of life really sucks and most of all, I'm a grinch withy 5yo (especially) and my 8yo. I can't and will not stand being like that to them anymore.

I'd rather be broke and a kind loving father than have money and do things and be an ass to my family. We are broke as it is, but I would go millions in debt if as long as my boys love me and I treat them the way they should be, my baby boys!

yeah I would say that is about right 45 minutes to glue these things to your head ( this is one case where being bald would be handy)
then since I hadn;t slept well in a long time... I crashed .. they woke me up and said you woke up about 50-120 times an hour IIRC
on with the cpap and a total different chart ...

best sleep I had in months was with those things glued to my head

Yes, it took some time to hook everything up. When it was all over, they told me that I slept fine. Bullshit, I hardly slept at all!!!

Yes, it took some time to hook everything up. When it was all over, they told me that I slept fine. Bullshit, I hardly slept at all!!!

All I know is Fuzo said it took about 45 to an hour to get all that shit on and hooked up, only to be sent home twice with no success, lol.

When I did my sleep study, I did not have to wear the mask.

I have a fancy fx Quattro I think it's called mask I bought $170 just sitting in a drawer if anyone needs it I'll cut u a smoking deal. I actually wanna sell my entire res med cpap machine and mask. Keep forgetting to flakeslist advertise it.
